Welcome to varied flower shows in summer!
The Natural History Museum of Latvia is a marvelous place where to pass time and view modern, interactive displays and varied exhibitions, go on excursions, guided by environmental interpreters, to participate in various informative and educational activities on environmental and natural studies, to discuss the topical and latest events on nature issues, to see a wide range collections of natural resources. These are only a few activities characterizing the Natural History Museum.
The Natural History Museum of Latvia is the oldest integrated natural history museum in the Baltics and the major treasury complex of natural resources in Latvia. The museum amasses and treasures natural collections, carries out research work and advertizes the holdings of the museum by establishing displays, exhibitions and other activities, thus participating in the studies of nature diversity.
The museum permanent exhibition to be viewed: „A Man and Environment”, on zoology, botany, entomology, dinamic geology and palaeontology, sea, anthropology as well as the permanent exhibition – a natural reference room „About the Earth, the Sun and Us”, in which the families with children (5 - 12 years old) are welcome to attend every month classes on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Saturday at 11:00; 12:00; 13:00; 14:00; 15:00.
The museum takes part in activities of environmental research and nature protection, provides services for environmental education – thus educating the target audience, schoolchildren and teachers, by use of various museum-oriented teaching methods in its educational activities, seminars and training courses, etc.
The Natural History Museum offers exhibitions all the year round. Even in the middle of severe winters there is a possibility to view the Latvian grown apple show, in spring the show of gorgeous flowers as well as the museum traditional exhibition of photographs „My Bird”, in autumn of mushrooms, flowers, fruit, berries, vegetables as well as of pet animals, insects and art, floristics and various nature related photography exhibitions, etc.
To conserve the nature, The Natural History Museum is enthusiastically engaged in spreading and implementation of several international conventions on nature protection. The museum is a scientific institution involved in the activities related with Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. (CITES) carrying out wide informative and educational activities in this field. The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands is being popularized for many years, in particular when the museum celebrates the World Wetlands Day by performing activities about wetland’s significance and nature protection. The mission of the Ramsar Convention is the protection and reasonable use of wetlands at a national and international level on the way to sustainable development all over the world.

Visit free permanent exhibitions!
Half an hour just before the closing time, during the museum working days and on Thursdays from 16:00 - 18:00, free permanent displays.
Free permanent displays available to: children of pre-school age, large families, children’s homes, care centres, crisis centres, boarding-schools and politically repressed persons and disabled people (disability groups 1 – 3). The Natural History Museum is engaged in the aid programme for the unemployed „Come and Participate”, Iespēju kartes card holders are welcome to use exclusive discounts for visiting permanent exhibitions, family days and temporary exhibitions.
A permanent exhibitions for: adults - 1.50 Ls; students, pensioners - 0.80 Ls; schoolchildren - 0.50 Ls.
Extra charge for temporary exhibitions.
